Outdoor Paradise

This outdoor paradise headwaters of the historic Rio Grande River begin its 1800 mile journey to the Gulf of Mexico high in the beautiful San Juan Mountains of Southern Colorado, with nearly 2 million acres of national forest surrounding the valley a multitude of historical cultural and recreational activist await the traveler.

Scenic vistas are available from more than 2200 miles of our outdoor paradise in back country roads and trails, as well as along Hwy. 149, which is home to the Silver Thread Scenic & Historic Byway. World class technical rock and ice climbing areas to well-maintained family hiking trails provide a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the Rocky mountain experience.

The river itself is often the focal point of this area and offering rafting and some of the best fishing in the world, but many other delights are to be enjoyed including camping, hiking, four-wheeling, horseback riding, bicycling, golf, rock and ice climbing, hunting, skiing, snowboardingand snowmobiling.
